    Start Smart Sports introduces 3-6-year-olds to sports through a step-by-step approach that builds confidence and self-esteem in a fun, positive environment. As the program progresses and children show improvement, the skills are altered so that each child remains challenged. Parents will get to spend quality time with their child while learning how to properly teach and support them in sports. Teams will not play games, only scrimmages. Participants will receive a jersey.

    125102 - Winter Youth Basketball


    Particpants will learn basic skills of the basketball, teamwork and training for the next level. Format is an eight-game, round-robin. Each player should accumulate a minimum of two quarters of playing time for each game they attend. Participants will receive a jersey.

    126301 - Challenger Basketball

    The City of College Station believes everyone should experience the compelling benefits of recreational sports, regardless of physical or developmental challenges. Challenger Sports provides that opportunity. The programs are designed to build confidence and self-esteem for those with special needs in a fun, positive environment. Participants learn skills and challenge themselves in a program tailored specifically to their needs. They are paired with volunteers from Project Sunshine, whose goal is “to build friendships while bringing smiles to children’s faces.” Participants sometimes stay in the program for many years, developing lasting friendships with fellow participants, staff and Project Sunshine volunteers.

    Join the Lincoln Recreation Center on Saturday, Jan. 13 from 11 a.m.-8:30 p.m. for a community-wide, conference focused on character, leadership and personal development. The Dream Works Conference is an opportunity for the public to share thoughts, ideas and resources for the betterment of the community, develop civic responsibilities, actively engage in discussion, and participate and celebrate the legacy and DREAM of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

    Admission is free and lunch is $5 per plate. Pre-register online before Jan. 10. The first 50 registrants will receive a free conference shirt. On-site registration will also be accepted.

    May a joyful noise! Ages 10+ are invited to rehearse with the Brazos Valley Community Choir on Jan. 8 and 11 from 6-8 p.m. at the Lincoln Recreation Center. Under the direction of Mr. Matthew Douglass, participants will learn songs to perform at the Evening of Praise & Worship during the Dream Works Conference on Saturday, Jan. 13 from 6-8:30 p.m. Fee to participate is $5 per person.

    210204 - ARC Lifeguard Instructor

    Ages 17+ • $175 • Course length: 21 hours and 45 minutes

    The purpose of the instructor course is to train instructor candidates to teach the American Red Cross Lifeguarding, Lifeguarding Blended Learning, Aquatic Attraction Lifeguarding (Water ? 3’), Shallow Water Lifeguarding, Waterpark Skills, CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and Health Care Providers, Administering Emergency Oxygen and Bloodborne Pathogens Training courses and/or modules. There will be two sessions available to choose from.

    There is an online component that must be completed prior to the first day of class. E-mail the Aquatics Supervisor at after completing the online registration.

    • Be at least 17 years old on or before the last day of the instructor course
    • Possess one of the following:
    • A current American Red Cross certificate for Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED
    • Successfully complete the Online Session for the Lifeguarding Instructor course, which consists of the following:
    o Orientation to the American Red Cross
    o Orientation to the Lifeguarding Instructor Course and Precourse Exam
    • Successfully complete the Precourse Session

    This program is designed to enhance your aerobic and anaerobic endurance, strengthen and tone your muscles, aid in weight loss and target individual fitness objectives. Outcomes are achieved through a mixture of high intensity interval training (HIIT), speed and agility training, and strength and conditioning training. The goal is to burn fat in less time and boost the body’s natural metabolism. If you can maintain intensity for 30-45 minutes, Kinetic Bodies will deliver a workout that will help you defy age and improve your overall health.     Martial arts helps develop discipline, self-defense skills, as well as proper judgement regarding when skills are used. This non-contact training program emphasizes the traditions of Karate-Do (the way of karate). The instructor, Chiyo Spaulding, is an AAU National Champion and has been teaching martial arts to children for the past 15 years. She has produced several nationally-ranked competitors. Parents are welcome to enroll with children.
